Yamba Hotel On Horizon
Situated just over a one-hour flight from Sydney or an easy seven-hour road trip, and three hours’ drive from Brisbane, opening in late May, The Surf Yamba is the perfect destination for those seeking an escape from the bustle of the city, where you can relax in this picturesque coastal town and take in the sea air. Situated opposite Yamba’s Main Beach, the twelve room Surf hotel is Yamba’s first boutique hotel, and with an Australian coastal vibe, is set to offer visitors a unique experience so far unseen in the area.
The Surf Yamba has occupied its current location for almost one hundred years, but this new iteration offers an authentically local experience in an exceptionally private space, where guests are invited to ‘check in and chill out’, enjoy stunning views from most rooms and relax on the unmissable roof deck.
David, Andrew and Phillip Mayne are the founders and co-owners of The Surf Yamba, and have considered Yamba a second home for more than forty years. Graziers in their day-to-day life, the Maynes aren’t strangers to the hospitality scene, having owned and operated the Barkly Homestead in the Northern Territory for 15 years. The Mayne family purchased The Surf Yamba twelve years ago and saw the potential in redeveloping the site.
“Yamba has always been our go-to holiday destination, and with The Surf Yamba, we hope to introduce a new generation of Australians to this beautiful area. The hotel has been inspired by the local scenic landscape, iconic beaches and headlands, and the rich heritage of Australia’s surfing culture,” said Andrew.
Designed by Sydney’s Design King Company, a distinctive curved building houses the hotel, representing the classic ocean liners of the 1930s, while from the rooftop terrace and plunge pool, guests will overlook uninterrupted 360-degree views of the ocean.
The Surf Yamba is also set to become a sought-after wedding, private function and meeting venue on the North Coast, with the rooftop terrace offering sweeping views of the coastal landscape. Choose from Main Beach views from the Pool Deck, Pippi Beach views from the aptly named ‘Pippi Deck’ or host a corporate retreat in the Club Room. Alternatively, guests can hire out a combination of these areas, with a five hour hire of the entire roof deck costing $4,000 and allowing for a capacity of 60. A four-hour rental of The Surf Yamba’s Club Room starts from $1,200, while a five-hour rental of both the Club Room and Pippi Deck starts from $2,500.
Keeping it in the family, The Surf Yamba’s guests will be welcomed by experienced General Manager Garry Snodgrass, who has previously held General Manager roles at the luxury Six Senses Soneva resorts in the Maldives, Anantara Resorts Maldives, Thailand and Vietnam and Fiji’s legendary Castaway Island.
“I’m excited to welcome guests to The Surf Yamba and show them what a special place Yamba is. There’s something for everyone here, whether guests want to retreat and relax at the hotel, or head out and explore the local beaches, and we look forward to delivering a personalised service to create a memorable experience,” said Garry.
The Surf Yamba is set to become the new destination holiday on New South Wales’ north coast, and with the hotel making guests feel like it’s Sunday afternoon all year long, it’s easy to see why.
The Surf Yamba is due to open from late May, with rooms starting from $275 per night.
