Terrace Suspect

After (what seemed like) 160 years of continuous renovations, Melbourne’s old GPO building revealed itself. And it looked great. Funky clothes and bags took up residence downstairs and ‘by appointment’ $5000-a-frock haute couture upstairs. And, perched in ‘the belfry’ is the eponymous GPO nightclub. If, like me, you thought the GPO was only for the night owls, then it’s worth popping into ‘The Library’ for a mid arvo coffee — an altogether nicer experience than the glorified coffee carts downstairs. For our purposes, let’s focus on The Terrace. Much more than just an upmarket beer garden, the Terrace offers a casual laidback feel with slick contemporary cool white and mirror finishes and a huge built-in outdoor barbeque. Situated right next to the GPO’s state-of-the-art kitchen, The Terrace is perfect for functions and private events. The Terrace is a good example of a venue investing in some decent sound (designed and installed by One Productions). An Allen & Heath GR05 analogue four-zone installation mixer controls proceedings for both The Terrace and The Library, enabling staff to easily set up the rooms as separate areas or be combined. Martin Audio C115s speakers grace The Terrace. QSC PLX2 amplifiers provide the power, while an Allen & Heath Xone:62 DJ mixer wheeled in on a partytime crash cart for ‘as and when’.
