Ananas is now open and set to seduce Sydney with its contemporary take on French Mediterranean glamour. In one of The Rocks’ historic buildings, Ananas (French for pineapple) is a modern cocktail and champagne bar complemented by the feel of an art deco inspired brasserie and late night supper club.
It is the vision of hospitality entrepreneur John Szangolies, with design from Rachel Luchetti (Luchetti Krelle) and final styling assistance from Melissa Collison.
A sweeping pewter bar and antique hanging mirrors dominate the bar space and will showcase a hand-picked selection of Champagnes to be served by the bottle, magnum and jeroboam. An archway takes the visitor to a brasserie offering a selection of seating: leather clad banquettes, intimate tables for two, as well as private dining rooms. A custom designed mural graces four large mirrored walls bringing a sense of contemporary France to the dining room. An eclectic mix of Parisienne flea market finds and quirky art deco curios, including antique bronze hanging birds, silver pineapple lamps, a giant clock and hand-painted tiles cheekily referencing the pineapple, are found throughout both bar and brasserie creating an aesthetic that is low on formality and high on French character.
Ananas joins Urban Purveyor Group’s acclaimed multi-level Argyle dining and nightlife precinct in The Rocks district which includes the ever popular hatted Saké Restaurant and Bar. The Cut Bar and Grill, a New York style steakhouse, is housed just a few metres away in a chic subterranean cellar.
