The Van Haandel Group has opened the doors to their latest venture in Melbourne, Trocadero – a modern brasserie which will be part of the iconic Arts Centre Melbourne’s redeveloped Hamer Hall. Frank Van Haandel and Anthony Musarra are the creative minds behind Trocadero, which channels a fresh take on a classic brasserie fusing vibrant and timeless design.
Accessibility and flexibility will be key to Trocadero’s menu, with the brasserie being suited to several meal periods. The Trocadero bar has expansive views of the Yarra and Melbourne skyline.
“This is one of our most exciting projects to date and we’re thrilled to be part of the iconic Arts Centre Melbourne’s redeveloped Hamer Hall,” says Frank Van Haandel, owner of the Van Haandel Group. “Trocadero is Melbourne’s answer to a modern, sophisticated and accessible brasserie and will be the place for Melburnians who appreciate great food, service, style and atmosphere.
“The location couldn’t be more ideal for this restaurant concept.”
Trocadero has design highlights on show, from the Tom Dixon marble top tables, to the 1.2m ice bucket by sculptor Peter Cole which is set to sit as a jewel behind the Trocadero bar, to the artwork commissioned by Japanese graffiti artist, Jun Inoue.
“Jun’s work brings a new dimension to the creative process of an artwork. He’s a key member of the latest generation of Tokyo street artists who approach the classic practice by combining modern Zen aesthetics with the environmental interaction and western elements of graffiti. He’s very Melbourne and his visual installation for Trocadero is going to be energetic and youthful,” says Van Haandel.
Trocadero includes a variety of indoor and protected outdoor spaces all of which have expansive and magnificent views of the Yarra River and Melbourne’s skyline. The indoor and outdoor bar will host up to 140 people and the restaurant will seat 100 people inside and 80 people outside on the terrace.
