Thought your club design was a bit ‘out there’? Think again. DJ Sven Väth has opened a new dance venue, CocoonClub, in Frankfurt, and it really is something else entirely. It’s wall-to-wall state-of-the-art: involving impressive interior design, and high-end sound, video and lighting systems throughout. Design agency 3deluxe created four zones, offering something different in atmosphere and function for each. The main floor, with its moving light installation, is the heart of the club. Which itself is surrounded by a ‘stroll’ area from all sides and has an integrated lounge — the so called ‘InBetween’ — which connects the club with two restaurants: ‘Micro’ and ‘Silk’.

A striking feature of the club’s interior design is a 100m long white membrane wall enclosing the main floor. Here some comfortable ‘cocoons’ — soft padded seats — offer some temporary relief from the avant-garde techno/house that Sven is so fond of. The structure of the membrane is livened up with the help of computer-animated projections: in total, 23 projectors are used in the club. Much of 3deluxe’s design inspiration came from biological models. These are reflected in both the three-dimensional structuring and the variety of forms in the interior.

On the lighting front: MA Lighting control desks (grandMA full-size and grandMA micro) look after the lighting systems. Lighting fixtures include 45 Clay Paky Mini Scan HP3s, while a further 10 white versions, without mirror, were included in the Micro restaurant.
