Guylian has been selling hazelnut praline-filled chocolate seashells by the shores of Belgium since 1960. And Australians apparently can’t get enough of them. So hungry are we for the chokkie treats that not one, but two cafés, will be opened and dedicated to fuelling the cocoa-mass addiction. The world’s first Guylian Belgian Chocolate Café has opened at the ‘Toaster’ building, overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, with the second to follow at the Police Station Building in The Rocks. The Kazal family, operators in the area for over 20 years, are running the Australian-owned project. The cafés have a liquor license, so it’s not just coffee with chocolates on a saucer, they will be open everyday from 8am till midnight serving up champagne, Belgian beers, Guylian liquor cocktails, Australian wines and Bru water (actual water, not code for another Belgian beer). And if a diet of chocolate may raise supersized concerns, chefs will be on hand to battle the bulge for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
